NZ (Branch) Scholarship for Records Management
Education
The New Zealand Branch of the Records Management Association of Australasia (RMAA) is proud to announce the RMAA NZ Branch Scholarship for Records Management Education. This is an annual award and will be launched in the 1st Semester 2009.
The aim of the scholarship is to promote the study of records and information management in New Zealand through formal specialist courses and to assist RMAA members to achieve educational qualifications required for professional membership.
The scholarship is a one-off payment of $2,000 to assist towards study, and will be paid to the organisation at which the successful applicant is registered. It is open to any member of the New Zealand Branch of the RMAA (aged 16 or over) who is enrolled in study in the field of records and information management (Note – Student Membership of the RMAA is free in the first year – but requires an application form see below).
In order to qualify, the applicant must either be enrolled in an RMAA recognised course or studying through an RMAA accredited registered training organisation (e.g. Polytechnic).
The scholarship can be awarded at any level in these categories -
- University level (BA or Masters)
- Diploma & Advanced Diploma level
The judging panel consists of an independent academic and two New Zealand Branch Councilors.
Applications
Applicants will need to provide the following:
- A short Personal Statement of approximately 500 words, stating why they wish to study the course in which they are enrolled. Applicants will need to indicate what they hope to achieve by completing the course, their personal motivation for the study and how they think it might contribute to their future plans and career.
- A Curriculum Vitae, including details of any relevant work, voluntary or other experiences, and/or other information about their background which may be relevant.
- Proof of enrolment in a recognised university/ polytechnic course.
- The names of two referees.
The closing date for the RMAA NZ Branch Scholarship is 20th February 2009.
Winners will be announced in InfoRMAANZ and they will be presented to
members as part of the New Zealand Branch activities for Information
Awareness Month in May.
Conditions of Application
- Applicants must be aged 16 or over (parent or guardian is to consent for those under 18).
- Applicants must be members of the New Zealand Branch of the RMAA (i.e. either personal/professional members, corporate nominees or student members).
- Applicants must be enrolled in a university course recognised by the RMAA or enrolled in an accredited recordkeeping course at a registered training organisation (Polytechnic).
- Applicants may be enrolled in full-time, part-time or flexible delivery modes of study.
- Applicants must complete the Scholarship Application Form and provide two (2) referees. They must also submit the following:

- Applicants may reapply for each year of their course.
- Applications can be posted, faxed or emailed and must be received by 5pm on 30th January 2009. Postal applications must be delivered to RMAA, PO Box 5643 Lambton Quay, WELLINGTON 6145. Emailed or faxed applications must be sent to the Scholarship Committee at the address provided on the Application Form.
- In cases where a scholarship is provided and the applicant does not complete the course of study for that year, then applicants may be required to repay some or all of the funds received.
Criteria and Details
- Candidates must respond to the selection criteria using the official nomination form.
- In all instances the panel of judges’ decision is final, and no correspondence will be entered into.
- The judges may, at their discretion, choose not to award the grant where no nominations are received or where it is deemed that nominees do not meet a high standard.
- Nominees are required to be RMAA members.
- Recipients of the grant will be announced in and presented with the grant during Information Awareness Month.
Judging
The panel of judges is made up of two RMAA New Zealand Branch Council members and one independent academic. The panel will be required to assess each nomination using the above criteria as a basis. The majority of the panel must agree on the successful nomination and make a recommendation to the Branch Council.
Closing date
20th February 2009 - No late nominations will be considered.
